Caring for a quick-dry towel: how to extend the life of your NAYAVITA functional towel
We love our NAYAVITA quick-dry beach towels and functional sports towels. They’re lightweight, compact and always ready to go. To keep them soft and fully functional for as long as possible, all it takes is a few simple habits: proper washing, gentle drying and smart storage.
Here are our practical tips for caring for a quick-dry towel, based on everyday use and commonly recommended care guidelines for microfiber.

1. Washing: Temperature, detergents and what to avoid
- Temperature – Stick to 30 °C, which is also stated on our care label. When a deeper wash is needed, 40 °C is fine. Microfiber handles cool to lukewarm water well, but higher temperatures should be avoided, especially for RPET microfiber.
- Detergent – Use a liquid, gentle detergent without fabric softener, optical brighteners or strong fragrance. Fabric softeners and brighteners coat the fibers and reduce absorbency. Less is more — detergent residue that isn’t fully rinsed out can negatively affect performance.
- Sorting and load size – Wash towels separately or with other delicate fabrics. Cotton towels and clothing release fine lint that easily sticks to microfiber. This can reduce absorbency, dull the towel’s appearance and clog the fibers over time. Avoid overloading the washing machine — towels need space to rinse properly.
- Avoid – Fabric softeners, dryer sheets and bleach. Softeners and dryer sheets leave a film on the fibers, reducing lightness and quick-dry performance. Bleach can damage both fibers and color.
2. Drying: Fast but gentle
- Air drying – The best option is air drying — quick, gentle and without the risk of heat damage.
- Tumble dryer – If you choose to use a dryer, select low heat / low tumble. High temperatures can damage or “seal” microfiber fibers, reducing absorbency. For NAYAVITA quick-dry towels, we generally don’t recommend tumble drying.
- Before storing – Always make sure the towel is completely dry before putting it away. Even quick-dry towels shouldn’t be stored with residual moisture.
3. Odor: How to remove it gently and effectively
- Light odor – Add one tablespoon of baking soda to the wash and 1–2 tablespoons of white vinegar to the rinse cycle. This helps dissolve detergent residue and neutralize odors. Rinse thoroughly.
- Stronger odor or mustiness – Run a separate wash at 30–40 °C, without fabric softener and with a small amount of detergent. Pre-soaking in lukewarm water can also help. Dry completely afterwards, preferably in fresh air or on low heat.
- Prevention – Don’t leave towels damp and crumpled in a bag or laundry basket for long periods. Moisture creates the perfect conditions for odor and microbial buildup.
4. Stain removal: What works best
- Fresh stains – Rinse with lukewarm water, gently work in a drop of mild liquid detergent and wash as usual.
- Tougher stains – Briefly soak in lukewarm water with a gentle detergent (no bleach or softener), then wash. Avoid stiff brushes, which can damage the fiber structure.
5. Storage: At home and on the go
- At home – Store towels in a dry, well-ventilated space. Never put away a damp towel, even if it’s quick-drying. Only fully dry towels belong in cupboards or shelves.
- While travelling – After use, wring out the towel and hang it up to air out or dry completely before packing. A mesh bag or breathable pocket is ideal for transporting a damp towel, allowing airflow.
- Sport tip – Don’t leave a wet towel in your gym bag for long. Hang it up the same day — it will dry faster and stay fresher.

Caring for your NAYAVITA quick-dry towel: Why details matter
Microfiber — especially with a high RPET content — performs best when it stays clean and isn’t overloaded with unnecessary products or exposed to high heat. By avoiding fabric softener, washing with fluffy cotton items and drying on hot programs, your quick-dry towel can retain its absorbency, fast drying and soft feel for much longer.
Every bit of care you give your towel can translate into a longer lifespan and a better everyday experience.
