What is cork?
Cork is effectively the outer bark of the cork oak tree. The majority of cork oaks grows in the Mediterranean. That is also where most of the world’s production comes from. The first bark is of the lowest quality, so after the trunk reaches approximately 30cm in diameter, it is removed. The actual cork harvest is then done after at least another 9 years.
Sustainable cork yoga mats
The best thing about cork is that not a single tree falls to produce it. Bark harvest does not harm the oak trees, and some live upto 500 years. More so, the presence of cork oaks in the forest supports biodeversity and provides habitat for many endengered plants and animals. For 100% sustainable and natural result, cork yoga mats are made without the use of glues and chemicals. The cork and natural rubber layers are connected through a high pressure steam process, making our cork yoga mats 100% natural and biodegradable.
